Role of Mewar in Tourism: A Discussion on World Tourism Day

In commemoration of World Tourism Day, renowned hoteliers and social media influencers from Udaipur gathered at the City Palace, Udaipur to engage in a thought-provoking discussion titled "Role of Mewar in Tourism" with Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Tourism Advisor to the Governor of Rajasthan. Mr. Mewar underscored the remarkable transformation of Udaipur into a globally recognized tourism hub, attributing this achievement to the visionary leadership of Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar, who pioneered the noble initiative of converting several historic palace buildings into hotels. He emphasized the profound impact of tourism on Mewar's economy, generating direct and indirect employment opportunities for a vast array of skilled individuals, including hotel and restaurant staff, auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers, flower vendors, vegetable vendors, toy vendors, clothing and footwear retailers, and business owners from all walks of life, along with their employees.

Mr. Mewar eloquently articulated the symbiotic relationship between tourism and the prosperity of Mewar's inhabitants, emphasizing that every resident bears a moral responsibility to promote tourism.

The distinguished panel included Mr. Rajesh Nambhi, General Manager of Raffles Udaipur Resort; Mr. Sandipan Bose, General Manager of Mementos by ITC Hotels; Mr. Nishant Agarwal, Vice President and General Manager of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, Udaipur; Mr. Gaurav Rege, General Manager of Radisson Blu Palace Resort & Spa, Udaipur; and Mr. Devendra Singh Parihar, General Manager of The Lalit Laxmi Vilas Palace.

Their insightful contributions enriched the discussion, highlighting the multifaceted benefits of tourism, including economic growth, cultural preservation, and inter-cultural exchange. The panel unanimously agreed that Mewar's rich cultural heritage, picturesque landscapes, and warm hospitality position it as an unparalleled tourist destination, poised to continue its ascent as a global tourism leader.
